The Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition is a new model of the Pelagos FXD that watch enthusiasts may not have expected. I have already had the opportunity to test the new Tudor model extensively. In this review, I will tell you everything you need to know about the Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition, from design to size and comfort to technology and pricing. I also compare the new Tudor to the existing Pelagos FXD models and tell you what makes this version so special.
Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition: The Watch That Nobody Expected
In addition to the classic Pelagos and the Pelagos 39, the Pelagos FXD is another variant of the diver’s watch that has made a name for itself among watch enthusiasts in recent years. With its fixed horns and elaborately designed straps, the FXD version of the Pelagos offers an even more toolish look than the other two versions. The Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition was a big surprise at Watches and Wonders 2024. Although it is not a completely new watch, it is very different from the other Pelagos FXD models.
Design and Feel
While the Pelagos collection has always been associated with diving and water sports, the Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition is dedicated entirely to cycling. The lightweight carbon case, the matte dial, and the textile strap are all black. Red elements on the dial and the new bezel give the watch a more casual and sporty look. When you put the watch on, it is immediately clear that this is a timepiece for athletes and active wearers. Despite its larger dimensions, the Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition is extremely light and comfortable.
Dimensions
The Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition has a diameter of 43 mm, a lug-to-lug distance of 53 mm, a height of 13.2 mm, and a lug width of 22 mm. Surprisingly, the watch is not quite as large as the numbers suggest. One reason for this is the all-black look, which makes the watch look a little smaller and more compact than it really is. The fixed textile strap also makes the sporty timepiece appear less bulky, so you can wear the Tudor Pelagos FXD even if you have a slightly smaller wrist. In any case, the dimensions are appropriate for a sporty watch with a chronograph function. If you like sporty watches in general, the Tudor Pelagos FXD may be the watch for you, whether you’re into cycling or not.
Technology
But what does the Tudor Pelagos FXD have to do with cycling? The watch has a fixed bezel rather than a diving bezel, which you may not have noticed at first. The bezel was specially developed for cycling and is the main feature of this sporty watch. It can be used with the chronograph function to read the average speed that cyclists normally achieve. The watch is powered by the in-house caliber MT5813, which features a chronograph function, a date display, and a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. Water-resistant to 100 meters (10 bar, 328 feet), the watch is robust enough for everyday use as well as for all kinds of sporting activities.
Tudor Pelagos FXD Cycling Edition: A Unicorn Among Watches?
It is difficult to find a watch comparable to the Tudor Pelagos FXD. The bezel designed for professional cycling and the typical Pelagos look make this watch truly unique. Even when compared to other Pelagos FXD models, the Cycling Edition looks like a completely different watch, despite its identical construction. Does the Cycling Edition have an edge over other variants? The Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition is a model that really surprised me at this year’s Watches and Wonders. I have to admit that I’m not a big fan of the FXD collection, but I think the Cycling Edition is very well done. I especially like the color scheme – the all-black look looks great in combination with the well-thought-out red accents. The new bezel also fits the watch perfectly and makes it more appealing to me. With a list price of around $5,860, the new Tudor is once again fairly priced. Of course, it’ll be of particular interest to cycling enthusiasts, but anyone with a taste for sports watches should also take a look at this timepiece. I think the Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition is the best FXD to date.
